What I offer...
With so many options and modalities to weave together, I will craft an individual and unique therapy just for you. Starting from the secure base of client-centered therapy, once I have a good idea of your history, issues, and goals, we will formulate the approach we will take together, making use of the following tools and strategies....
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitising and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful and evidenced-based therapy considered by the WHO as one of the best ways to treat trauma and other past experiences that have resulting in limiting beliefs and current issues. EMDR helps by putting traumatic memories back into the past where they belong, and reducing the amount of distress felt if reminded about them. Attachment-informed EMDR takes this even further, and is a more powerful and direct way to address attachment trauma and even intergenerational trauma. For more information on how EMDR, and specifically attachment-informed EMDR works, visit www.emdraa.org and listen to Mark Braine speak about why AI-informed EMDR is more effective than standard EMDR alone (from 3:30).
GOTTMAN METHOD
Based on over 40 years of research into what makes relationships thrive and conversely what elements lead to relationship break down, the Gottman Method is the most effective form of couples therapy currently available. The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of your relationship, and uses research-based interventions to achieve goals including learning to deal with conflict, increased intimacy, respect and affection, and removing barriers to feeling close and understanding one another. No matter how bad your relationship feels right now, the Gottman Method can help by teaching you the skills to find each other again, and rediscover the magic of a truly satisfying and loving relationship.
IFS
I use the Internal Family Systems model to help clients explore their internal parts. Ever wonder why you have conflicting beliefs or thoughts about certain things, or have a goal, but keep "sabotaging" yourself? This can all be explained by our parts. It is only when we connect with our internal parts, and begin to understand what they are doing and why, that we can implement transformational change. IFS teaches us that no part is bad; all of them are simply trying to protect us and help us navigate life as we know it. But many strategies we have taken on in response to trauma or early experiences although they started out as adaptive and protective measures, later become maladaptive and create barriers to progress and growth.
HYPNOTHERAPY
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that enables connection to the subconscious mind. A natural state of deep relaxation that we pass into and out of when we fall asleep and waken, it can help to deepen our self knowledge and understanding and create dramatic change for many issues including stress, chronic pain, addiction, compulsive behaviours, phobias, and more.
EFT (Tapping)
Emotional Freedom Technique, or tapping, makes use of some of the acupressure points used in acupuncture. Tapping on a series of these points while acknowledging difficult feelings and thoughts, has been shown to lower levels of stress hormones, levels of depression, anxiety and PTSD, and increase levels of happiness. CBT
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is considered a gold standard therapy for the treatment of many mental health issues including depression, anxiety, stress trauma, and grief. It is particularly useful in looking at the ways we perceive things and noticing that the way we respond to influences the way we feel and act, and also what we experience physically. And understanding this cycle can help us to create lasting and positive changes in both our behaviours and how we feel.
YOGA
Although most of us things of the physical activity when we think of yoga, in fact asana (movements of the body) are only one of the eight limbs of yoga. Meaning union (of body, breath and mind), yoga is a powerful tool to slowing down, connecting with self, slowing your breath and calming the nervous system, and a gateway to a calmer and more meditative mind.
